Literacy: We got our first individual spelling lists and used them for word work throughout the week. Students got their Spelling City accounts to practice their words through games, activities, and to take their weekly test. We worked on inferencing with Mrs. Belkind. Students have been meeting to read one-on-one with me so that I can get a good picture of them as a reader.
Math: We are learning the vocabulary for different addition and subtraction strategies such as double +1, make 10 facts, and counting on facts. We played a fun game called “What’s the Sum?”
Writing: We picked our “seed” stories that we will work on publishing. We rehearsed this story several times orally to work on our storyteller voices and to make sure we are adding enough detail to our story. A writer can never tell a story too many times, so ask your child to tell you their story. We wrote 3 different leads for this story by practicing different writing techniques.
Cursive: We have added the letters g, h, and t to our learned letters. We can now even write sentences!
Science: We will be starting our first investigation where we try to discover what happens when magnets interact with other magnets and paper clips. We are working on using scientific terms like repel, attract, and force to describe our observations. We will do a floating paper clip investigation. Ask your child which forces were present.
Buddies: Students filled out a buddy application so that we can match them with their buddy. They are looking forward to meeting their buddies!
Reminders: Make sure you set technology expectations for home use of Chromebooks. Please remind your child to bring a charged Chromebook back to school on Monday. Students will not be allowed to call home if they forget. No school on Thursday for Rosh Hashanah. Enjoy your time with them!
